Has your wife been on your case lately for spending way too much money on your home entertainment system instead of showering her with gold USB flash drives and diamond encrusted notebooks (you gotta keep up with the times). The SpeakerCraft TIME One speakers ought to get her off your case as this set of speakers remain hidden inside the ceiling until you need it. All there is to do is touch a button on the infrared remote control and you’re good to go, as the little elves living inside each speaker start winding up the cogs of machinery inside to bring down those speakers. Nah, I’m just kidding. Each speaker is equipped with a robotically controlled speaker that enables you to make full use of servo-controlled speakers, hiding them out of sight when not in use.

The SpeakerCraft TIME One speakers will be able to tilt at 15°, 30° or 45° angles until they are directed straight at you to bring you the best sound quality possible no matter which part of the room you’re at. Each unit measures 11.6″ in diameter and are flush-mounted, containing an 8″ Kevlar cone woofer accompanied by an 1″ aluminum/magnesium dome tweeter. All of them are hooked up to the central control unit via a Cat5 cable, and you have the luxury to pick out your own booming subwoofer to complete the entire setup.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that you will be able to save the position of the speakers once you have set them according to your liking, so the next time you activate them, they’ll descend and adjust their angles to the preset positions. Sounds great in theory, but let’s be practical here. You won’t exactly plant yourself in the same spot every time, right? After all, just seeing these speakers move all by themselves as if they have a life of their own are reward alone. The only possible gripe would be the way sounds are directed – especially when you’re watching movies. All the voices would probably sound as though they’re coming from above, greatly detracting from the experience. That’s what I think anyway – if you figure out that forking $2,000 for the entire bundle of five speakers and a control unit is worth it, then be my guest.

Technology for the first DLP® 3-D television was introduced to displays in 2007. Utilizing the inherent speed advantages of the Digital Micromirror Device (DMD), this technology displays the left and right views required for stereoscopic, or 3-D imaging. When combined with shutter glasses, users will experience high quality, high definition 3-D viewing with DLP® HDTVs.

DLP® 3D technology generates independent views for the left and right eyes. A synchronization signal is generated for each view and transmitted optically to shutter glasses that are worn by the viewer. The shutter glasses process the signal and control the shutter for each eye, insuring display of the correct view.

Advantages of DLP® 3-D HDTV Technology

• The DLP® 3-D technology supplies a 60Hz frame rate signal to each eye (total equivalent to 120 Hz). This high video frame rate reduces flicker which is typical of other frame sequential stereographic display systems.

DLP® 3-D Image Format*

3-D stereoscopic video content is sent to the TV through an HDMI or DVI port using the DLP® 3-D format. In this format, the left and right images are sampled using the DLP® unique TV. The two views are then overlaid and appear as a left and right checkerboard pattern in a conventional orthogonal sampled image. This format preserves the horizontal and vertical resolution of the left and right views providing the viewer with the highest image fidelity possible with the available bandwidth.
